The Ejeh Dekina, Alhaji Doctor Usman Obaje OON, has declared his support for the Nigeria For Women Programme, Scale Up Project (NFWP) to ensure its successful implementation in the State.
This declaration was made during the visit of the State Project Unit Team of Nigeria For Women Programme to Dekina Local Government Area.
The Team was in Dekina to sensitize the traditional ruler and his chiefs on the Federal Government’s desire to empower rural Women and improve their livelihoods as well as build their capacity to become entrepreneurs in their chosen businesses.
Speaking at the Ejeh Dekina palace, the State Project Coordinator, Pastor Doctor Mrs Esther Ameadaji, pointed out the benefits inherent in the NFWP and the need for the women to participate actively in the programme to improve their economic status, adding value to their immediate families and community as well.
The Sensitization/ Advocacy visit attracted Women from various wards of the Local Government who gathered to hear from the SPC Team on what they stand to gain being Members of the Women Affinity Group (WAG), where skillsand knowledge of business management are impacted.
The program seeks to change the negative narrative of Women who struggle to survive in business and make them successful business entrepreneurs.
In a remark, his royal Majesty and Ejeh Dekina, Alhaji Doctor Usman Obaje OON, who expressed delight over the visit, endorsed the project with an assurance that the Council would give all necessary support to ensure total implementation of the project in the local government and commended the Federal and State Governments for putting up the programme to alleviate the plight of the down trodden Women in the Country.
He directed the Chiefs and the Community Leaders in the area to mobilize the women eligible for the programme to be part in view of the benefits they stand to derive from the project and thanked the State Project Coordinating Unit for the visit which he described as a memorable one.
Other Stakeholders who spoke during the advocacy visit pledged to throw their weight behind the project to ensure women in the area enjoy the support and improve their livelihoods.
It is expected that the Women Affinity Group (WAG) comes into existence after the recruitment and training of Ward Facilitators for the monitoring of the groups in the three flagship areas of the State which are Okene, Dekina and Yagba-East
